Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed has labeled the students leading the civil disobedience movement as terrorists.
The students, who had issued an ultimatum to the government for the release of their arrested peers and other demands, began a civil disobedience campaign across the country yesterday after their demands were not met.
They are now calling for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation.
On Sunday, protests in various Bangladeshi cities related to this civil disobedience movement led to clashes with police, resulting in at least 12 deaths and over 30 injuries.
Due to the student protests, the government has shut down internet services nationwide and announced the reimposition of a curfew starting this evening.
In her statement, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina described the protesters not as students but as terrorists attempting to destabilize the country.
She appealed to her fellow citizens to crush these terrorists with force.
