Karachi expected to experience thunderstorms with rain from August 3 to 5: Meteorological Department

Karachi: Under the monsoon system, clouds covered various areas of the city on Wednesday night, with continuous rain in several areas including Old City.

According to the Meteorological Department, thunderstorms with rain are expected in the city between August 3 and August 5.

Following the recent monsoon system’s impact, rain began in different areas of the city on Wednesday night, continuing into Thursday.

The rain varied from light to moderate, with some areas experiencing heavy showers.

In the Old City area, moderate rain that started around midnight continued until morning, causing water to accumulate in low-lying areas such as near Grooms’ Mandir (opposite Gul Rana Center) and Kashmir Road.

According to the meteorological department’s data, the highest rainfall recorded was 13 mm in DHA Phase 2, 11.1 mm at the Old Airport, 11 mm in Qaidabad, 6.2 mm in Surjani, 6 mm at PAF Faisal Base, 5.5 mm in Keamari, 5.3 mm in Gadap Town, and 4 mm at Jinnah Terminal.

Other areas recorded 3.2 mm in Korangi, 3 mm in Hassan Square, 2.5 mm at the Met Office (University Road), 2 mm in Orangi Town, 1.2 mm in Gulshan-e-Mimar and Nazimabad, and 1 mm in Saddar.

On Thursday, after several days, strong south-western sea breezes blew through the city, reaching a speed of 31 km/h.

The sky remained completely overcast, and there was no sunshine, making the overall weather pleasant.

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for a new monsoon system, indicating that powerful monsoon winds will affect Sindh from Rajasthan (India) and the Arabian Sea starting today (August 2).

Thunderstorms with rain are expected in Karachi from August 3 to August 5.

During this period, thunderstorms with rain are also likely in Tharparkar, Badin, Sajawal, Hyderabad, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Tando Allahyar.

Additionally, from August 3 to August 6, areas in rural Sindh, including Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Qamber Shahdadkot, Kashmore, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, and between August 3 and August 6, areas such as Khairpur, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Naushahro Feroze, Ghotki, Sukkur, and others may experience strong winds and thunderstorms with rain.

The Meteorological Department reported that on Thursday, the maximum temperature in the city dropped several degrees compared to the previous day, recording 31.6°C, with a humidity level of 82%.
