Prime Minister: Ismail Haniyeh’s martyrdom and world’s silence on this barbarity is alarming

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the martyrdom of Hamas’ political bureau chief in an Israeli attack in Tehran yesterday as a trampling of international laws and expressed concern over the world’s silence on this barbarity, despite condemnations from Pakistan, China, and Russia, among other nations.

Addressing members of parliament about the situation in Palestine, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that for the past nine months, a bloodbath has been ongoing in Palestine, with over 40,000 Palestinians, including children, martyred.

He highlighted the complete destruction of hospitals in Gaza and the daily loss of lives, with entire cities and neighborhoods being leveled.

The heartbreaking scenes on television, he noted, are unprecedented in history.

The Prime Minister condemned the extrajudicial killing of Ismail Haniyeh by a rocket attack in Tehran, calling it a violation of international laws.

He lamented the inhumanity, stating that even Haniyeh’s children and grandchildren were also martyred, showcasing an unparalleled level of brutality.

He mentioned that several countries, including Pakistan, Turkey, China, Russia, Qatar, and Malaysia, strongly condemned the incident, and the entire world mourns this atrocity.

However, he stressed that the world’s silence on such events is alarming.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need for the international community to condemn this extremism and terrorism and noted that the resolutions passed by the United Nations and other international bodies have been blatantly disregarded.

Shehbaz Sharif referenced the International Court of Justice’s decision in The Hague, which condemned the act and labeled it as genocide, yet Israel’s actions remain unchecked.

He criticized Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu for his open brutality and the destruction caused by the Israeli military, calling it a significant challenge and tragedy for developed nations.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to Ireland and Spain for their support of Palestinian rights and the two-state solution, personally thanking the Irish Prime Minister.

He urged the parliamentary members to deliberate on what stance Pakistan, as a government and as a nation, should take on these inhumane incidents.

The meeting included senior representatives and leaders from Pakistan Muslim League (N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Balochistan Awami Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan, Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), Pakistan Muslim League (Q), Pakistan Muslim League Zia, and National Party.
