Negotiations between Jamaat-e-Islami and government expected to begin shortly

Rawalpindi: The second round of negotiations between the government and Jamaat-e-Islami is expected to take place shortly at the Commissioner Office in Rawalpindi.

The Jamaat-e-Islami delegation, led by Liaquat Baloch, has presented ten demands to the government.

These include a 50% discount for those using up to 500 units of electricity, the elimination of petroleum levy, and an immediate rollback of recent increases in petroleum product prices.

Jamaat-e-Islami also demands a 20% reduction in the prices of essential goods, the immediate removal of taxes on stationery items, a 35% cut in non-developmental government expenditures, and the termination of agreements with IPPs (Independent Power Producers) for payments in dollars.

Additionally, they seek a review of all agreements with IPPs, the removal of unjust taxes on agriculture and industry, a 50% reduction in the tax burden, measures to ensure industrial, commercial, and investment growth for youth employment, the removal of taxes on salaried individuals, and bringing privileged classes into the tax net.

Commissioner Rawalpindi Engineer Aamir Khattak has arrived at the office.

The government’s technical committee includes FBR member IR Mir Badshah and Special Secretary Power Arshad Majeed.

Government committee members Amir Maqam, DC Rawalpindi Hassan Waqar Cheema, and MP Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry have also reached the Commissioner Office. Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarar, the head of the government committee, is yet to arrive.

The Jamaat-e-Islami delegation, led by Liaquat Baloch, is present at the Commissioner Office in Rawalpindi.
