France opens its first cheese museum

Paris: During the Olympic Games, France has inaugurated its first cheese museum.

According to the museum’s website, the Musée du Fromage is designed as an educational and interactive space to celebrate French cheese as part of the national heritage and to provide historical information about various regions.

The museum’s founder, Pierre Berchon, established it with the goal of preserving the art of cheese-making in France, showcasing 56 regional varieties made from cow, sheep, and goat milk.

He noted that while people hear a lot about how other foods are made and their nuances in flavor, very little is known about cheese.

Berchon mentioned that although people love to eat cheese and demand remains high, very few young people choose to make it a career.

The museum, where cheese is made daily, is located in a 17th-century stone building on Île Saint-Louis, not far from Notre-Dame Cathedral.
