Rawalpindi: Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, Hafiz Naeem, has stated that the government has no option but to accept their demands, and any delay in this will harm the rulers more.
He hinted that he might call upon citizens across the country to stop paying their electricity bills.
Addressing a women’s gathering at the protest site in Rawalpindi, Hafiz Naeem said that the rulers have no option left but to accept the demands, and that the women are ready to move forward and march towards D-Chowk.
He mentioned that the government should accept the demands because any delay will cause further harm, as the situation has progressed significantly.
He demanded the elimination of taxes, petroleum levy, and taxes on electricity.
Hafiz Naeem emphasized that this is not just politics, asserting that while they follow the teachings of Islam, they do not accept false laws, and sovereignty belongs only to Allah.
He said that those who believe in Allah as the provider do not fear anyone else, asserting that the greatest power is God, not the USA.
The Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami declared that they need to abolish the system that has oppressed them.
He mentioned that the Prophet (PBUH) made education compulsory for all children, and questioned how the rights and education of girls can be neglected.
He criticized the current state of women’s rights in Pakistan, including among the educated and scholars, and vowed to implement laws ensuring women’s rights, threatening imprisonment for those who deny these rights.
He announced plans for protests outside Governor Houses in Peshawar, Lahore, and Karachi, and affirmed that the sit-in in Rawalpindi will continue until their demands are met.
He called for a forensic audit of IPPs (Independent Power Producers) and the termination of past agreements, including revised agreements for any IPPs that need to be shut down.
Hafiz Naeem criticized the government’s extravagance, stating that the nation cannot bear these expenses any longer.
He pointed out the need for IT infrastructure, rejecting the tradition of distributing laptops and sacks of flour for photo opportunities.
He asserted that it is the state’s responsibility to provide education when it collects taxes, highlighting that over 26.2 million children are currently out of school across the country.
