War for gold reserves begins, China makes confident start

The battle for gold medals has begun at the Paris Olympics 2024, with China making a confident start by securing the first two gold medals.

Pakistan’s shooters failed in both their events. On the first day, in the women’s 3-meter springboard diving event, the world champion duo Chang Yani and Chen Yuxi won the gold medal for China as expected.

America’s Sarah Bacon and Cassidy Cook won the silver medal, while England’s divers Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen claimed the bronze medal.

In the 10-meter air rifle mixed team event, China’s Yuting Huang and Lihao Sheng took the first position.

Earlier, the initial medal was secured by Kazakhstan’s shooters. Alexandr Lin and Islam Satpayev defeated Germany’s team Maximilian Albrecht and Anna Jensen in the 10-meter mixed air rifle competition.

Pakistan’s Olympians Gulfam Joseph and Khashmala Talat failed to deliver a notable result and were eliminated in the initial rounds.

Additionally, Gulfam Joseph in the 10-meter air pistol men’s event and Khashmala Tariq in the 10-meter air pistol women’s event also lost in the qualification rounds.

Gulfam Joseph took 22nd place out of 33 in the 10-meter air pistol men’s qualification, failing to qualify for the finals with a score of 571.

He had previously finished ninth in the Tokyo qualification. Khashmala took 23rd place out of 44 in the 10-meter air pistol women’s qualification event.

Both will now participate in the 10-meter air pistol mixed event on Monday.

On the first day of the Games, there were intense competitions for medals between traditional rivals China and the USA in 13 events.

In the women’s road cycling race time trial, Australia’s Grace Brown won the gold medal, Britain’s Anna Henderson won the silver medal, and America’s Chloe Dygert settled for the bronze.

The men’s individual time trial event was won by Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel, Italy’s rider Filippo Ganna claimed the silver, and Belgium’s Wout van Aert took the bronze.

France secured its first medal, with the men’s rugby sevens team defeating South Africa in the semifinals to reach the final, where they will face defending champions Fiji. South Africa and Australia will compete for the bronze medal.

In the men’s handball opening match, Norway defeated Argentina 31-36 in an exciting match. In men’s volleyball, Poland beat Egypt 0-3.

In men’s basketball, France opened their account with a 41-44 victory over Brazil. Meanwhile, the scheduled skateboarding events on Saturday were postponed.

The men’s street skateboarding event was scheduled for Saturday, but due to overnight rain in Paris, the tracks could not be dried.

These events will now be held on Monday, while the women’s event will proceed as scheduled on Sunday.
