Massachusetts: A new AI model, Virchow, developed by scientists, has outperformed traditional clinical methods for cancer diagnosis.
A recent study published in “Nature Medicine” discussed the use of Virchow for analyzing cancer pathology reports.
Researchers in the U.S. demonstrated the model’s capability to identify cancer biomarkers and recognize 7 rare cell types and 9 common cancer types in the histopathology field.
The researchers noted that the use of AI in cancer diagnosis and specificity has significantly increased, including efforts to improve workflows.
However, AI is now being widely used for disease analysis and post-treatment response assessment, reducing reliance on traditional cancer diagnostic tests and methods.
