Bangladesh government to approve job quota decision amid ongoing curfew

Dhaka: The Bangladeshi government will formally approve the decision regarding quotas in government jobs today.

According to foreign news agencies, the situation remains calm for the second day in Dhaka and other cities, but a curfew is still in place, and internet and telecom services remain suspended.

The report indicates that students have given the Hasina Wajed government a 48-hour deadline to address eight demands, including apologizing for the violent crackdown and reopening universities.

Meanwhile, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed has accused her opponents of inciting violence and worsening the situation.

She stated that the government did not want to impose a curfew but was forced to do so for public safety, and that the curfew will be lifted as soon as conditions return to normal.

It is noted that protests in Bangladesh over the past week have resulted in 163 deaths and hundreds of injuries, leading the Supreme Court to halt the implementation of the High Court’s order regarding recruitment based on job quotas.
