UAE sentences 57 Bangladeshis for illegal protests against their government

Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates has sentenced 57 Bangladeshi citizens for illegal demonstrations.

According to Arab media, the sentences were handed down by the Federal Appeals Court on Sunday for the charge of disturbing public order.

The court sentenced 3 Bangladeshis to life imprisonment for calling for and inciting illegal protests, while 53 others received 10-year prison terms for participating in the protests.

Additionally, one Bangladeshi was sentenced to 11 years in prison for illegal entry into the country and participation in the demonstrations.

All convicted individuals will be deported immediately upon completing their sentences.

Arab media reports indicate that the convicts had staged protests against the Bangladeshi government in the UAE on Thursday.
