Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shafqat Mahmood has announced his retirement from politics.
In his statement, Shafqat Mahmood said that 34 years ago he left his government job to enter politics, but after much thought, he has decided to retire from politics.
He intends to dedicate the rest of his life to writing and teaching.
He clarified that this decision is neither due to any pressure nor is he planning to join another political party.
This announcement is solely about stepping away from politics due to the demands of time and age.
He agrees with those who say that the youth should step forward in politics.Shafqat Mahmood mentioned that his political journey has seen many ups and downs.
He has served as a member of the Senate and National Assembly, and as a federal and provincial minister, and has even experienced jail time.
He takes satisfaction in having always fulfilled his responsibilities with utmost honesty and treated every position as a duty.
He expressed gratitude that no one has ever leveled unjust accusations against him.
As Education Minister, he created a uniform curriculum for the first time in Pakistan’s history and successfully managed the education system during the challenging times of COVID.
Shafqat Mahmood thanked Imran Khan for giving him the opportunity to serve, and expressed appreciation to PTI and the people of his constituency who elected him twice.
He hopes that his passion for serving the country will continue through writing, teaching, and media.
