SCO Summit and Security Issues

The Pakistani nation must speak out against the imperialist Zionist agenda. Amidst ongoing Israeli operations in Gaza, a recent attack led to the martyrdom of Hamas’s Al-Qassam Brigade leader along with his family. Israel’s aggression is intensifying, with Lebanon also affected. Hezbollah is now a target, and the U.S. has launched attacks on the Houthi forces in Yemen. This conflict now involves Palestinians, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Iran, further escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Pakistan has expressed concern over Israel’s actions. Recently, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman to discuss solidarity with Palestinians. An All-Parties Conference (APC) was proposed, along with the formation of a committee to advocate for Palestinian rights. This committee includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Sherry Rehman, Saad Rafiq, and Nayyar Bukhari. On October 7, gatherings and seminars will express solidarity with Palestinians.

Former President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will attend the APC. Media reports indicate that Bilawal Bhutto welcomed the APC decision, highlighting the extended conflict and urging a unified stance against the imperialist Zionist agenda. The Foreign Office of Pakistan reaffirmed Pakistan’s stance on Palestine, demanding an end to Israel’s illegal occupation. During a UN Human Rights Council debate, Secretary of State Amina Baloch urged global support for Palestinian rights and called for adherence to international law.

Amidst these developments, Pakistan is set to host the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, a significant honor, underscoring positive relations with SCO member states. Notably, India has confirmed its Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar will attend the summit in Islamabad—the first senior Indian official to visit Pakistan in nine years.

Scheduled for October 15-16, the summit will see participation from eight member states. Established in 2001, the SCO aims to foster political, economic, and security cooperation. Pakistan has completed security preparations, with military deployment under Article 245 for the summit’s duration. The capital will have enhanced security around key government buildings and the Red Zone, reflecting the summit’s sensitive nature.

This event is a major global gathering, with leaders from China, India, Russia, and other nations expected to attend. Robust security is essential to protect Pakistan’s interests and ensure a successful summit.
