World’s strongest battery made from carbon fiber

Stockholm: Scientists have developed an extremely strong and lightweight battery made from carbon fiber, claiming it is powerful enough to run electric aircraft.

According to a team from Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, this battery, deemed the strongest in the world, is so robust that it can be used as a weight-bearing structure.

This means the material could be incorporated into vehicle designs to reduce weight.

Lead researcher Richa Chaudhary stated that scientists have succeeded in creating a battery from carbon fiber that is as strong as aluminum and provides enough energy to be used commercially.

This advanced structural battery can cut laptop weight by half, slim mobile phones to the thickness of a credit card, and potentially increase electric vehicle driving range by up to 70% with a single charge.

The new design replaces the aluminum foil cover in the positive electrode.

The batteries use lithium ions transferred through a partially solid electrolyte, which enhances cell protection and reduces the risk of fire.
