Nairobi: The former boyfriend who set fire to Ugandan athlete Rebecca Cheptegei has also died from his injuries.
Rebecca Cheptegei, a 33-year-old athlete from Uganda, was set on fire by her former boyfriend on September 1 after he doused her with petrol.
Over 75% of Rebecca Cheptegei’s body was burned in the attack, and she died four days later.
During the attack, the assailant also suffered 30% burns. Both were taken to the same hospital for medical treatment.
Dixon Andima Marangach, Rebecca Cheptegei’s former boyfriend, passed away on Monday at a hospital in Kenya, where Rebecca had died a few days earlier.
Reports indicate that Rebecca and her former boyfriend were involved in a land dispute.
Rebecca had represented Uganda in the 2024 Paris Olympics and secured 44th place in the marathon.
