The third day of the only Test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand was also abandoned due to rain and poor outfield conditions.
In Noida, India, the game between Afghanistan and New Zealand was canceled for the third consecutive day due to poor arrangements and a wet outfield.
On September 9, the match was called off on the first day because the field could not dry after light rain. The second day also saw the game being canceled as the outfield remained wet.
Heavy rain late last night further thwarted the ground staff’s efforts, leading to the cancellation of the third day’s play just an hour after it began.
Out of 2,548 Test matches played so far, only seven have ended without a single ball being bowled.
All these incidents occurred in 1890, 1938, 1970, 1989, and 1998, with no such occurrences in the 21st century.
On the second day, the ground staff used wet patches and fans to dry the field, exposing the shortcomings of the world’s wealthiest cricket board.
It is noteworthy that the Test match between Afghanistan and India was part of the ICC World Test Championship.
Meanwhile, fans have criticized the BCCI, stating that the Afghan team was given a ground with inadequate facilities for hosting a match, where even a small amount of rain prevented the outfield from drying.
