Bengaluru: A mysterious case of a boy in India crying blood has deeply concerned doctors.
Over the span of six weeks, the boy has experienced a worsening of the condition, with an increase in the volume and thickness of the blood tears, particularly severe during urination.
A case report published in the British Medical Journal Case Reports details this alarming situation.
The Indian teenager visited a Bengaluru eye specialist two weeks after he began experiencing blood discharge from his right eye and the right nostril.
Doctors reported that the blood tears caused no pain, but their quantity has been increasing over time.
The report noted that the boy had not suffered any recent trauma and no blood was coming from other parts of the body.
Initial examinations revealed no obvious issues. The boy’s vision is 20/20, there are no signs of hemorrhage, and no scientific problem has been identified.
When the boy returned for a follow-up examination a month later, the amount of blood seeping from his right eye had increased.
Subsequently, after being examined by a neuro-radiologist, the boy was diagnosed with ‘conjunctival micro-arteriovenous malformation.’
According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, micro-arteriovenous malformation occurs when a cluster of blood vessels does not form correctly in the body.
