Edinburgh: New research indicates that using saline nasal drops can reduce the duration of flu symptoms in children by up to two days.
Professor Steve Cunningham of the University of Edinburgh’s Respiratory Medicine for Children stated that the study found that saline nasal drops can shorten the average duration of flu symptoms in children from 8 days to 6 days.
He further noted that children using saline nasal drops also require fewer medications during their illness.
Dr. Cunningham added that children typically experience colds 10 to 12 times a year.
While medications like acetaminophen and ibuprofen can alleviate symptoms, no treatment has yet been identified that provides a complete cure for the common cold.
