NAB secures indirect recovery of PKR 1.1 billion from Galiyat Development Authority

Islamabad: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has recovered land worth PKR 2.5 billion from the Forest Department and secured an indirect recovery of PKR 1.1 billion from the Galiyat Development Authority (GDA) case.

According to media, NAB recovered PKR 1.1 billion indirectly in the GDA case.

Irregularities and deficiencies in lease agreements for government rest houses and private hotels led to a loss of over PKR 1 billion to the public treasury.

NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa began its investigation into the GDA in August 2023.

The provincial government had handed over 14 government rest houses to the GDA in 2017, which the GDA outsourced.

Lease agreements required an annual increase of 15% for five rest houses, but this was reduced to 7%, causing a loss of PKR 760 million to the national treasury.

NAB restored these agreements to the 15% annual increase, resulting in an additional PKR 760 million in GDA’s revenue.

Additionally, in 2021, 22 kanal of land leased to a private hotel for 20 years was undervalued at PKR 85 crore, while its actual value was PKR 45 crore.

NAB re-evaluated the lease agreement with new terms, ensuring the GDA will receive PKR 92 crore over seven years, adding an extra PKR 34 crore to GDA’s revenue.

NAB also secured indirect recovery of PKR 2.5 billion by retrieving land worth the same amount in the Swat district.

Following complaints of illegal encroachments, NAB conducted an inquiry and a detailed inspection in the Bahrain tehsil, resulting in the transfer of 628 kanal of forest land back to the Forest Department from illegal occupants.

NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s effective action and cooperation with the Forest Department and Revenue Department led to the identification and recovery of the encroached lands, resulting in a significant recovery of PKR 2.5 billion for the provincial government.
