Peshawar: The restoration of NAB (National Accountability Bureau) amendments has provided relief to many political leaders and senior officials in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to media, following the Supreme Court’s decision to restore NAB amendments, there will be 10 cases left in NAB courts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
This decision by the apex court will benefit several political leaders and senior officials in the province.
As a result of the Supreme Court’s decision, references against former Federal Minister Arbab Alamgir and his wife, MNA Asma Alamgir, will be sent back to NAB from the NAB courts.
Similarly, the reference against former Provincial Minister Sher Azam Wazir will also be returned to NAB.
After the Supreme Court’s ruling, approximately 170 out of 189 references in Peshawar’s accountability courts will be sent back to NAB.
Thus, around 10 references will remain for hearing in NAB’s four courts, including those involving former IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Malik Naveed and former Secretary of Workers Welfare Board Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Malik Tariq Awan.
The reference involving the detained accused Hassan Rafiq in the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) scandal is also expected to be filed.
Additionally, several references related to fraud under the guise of partnerships and business will also remain for hearing.
Of the approximately 170 references being returned to NAB, each involves an amount of less than 50 crores.
Following the Supreme Court’s decision, NAB will be required to send the returned references to the relevant courts.
The returned NAB cases will also be forwarded to other agencies such as Anti-Corruption or FIA (Federal Investigation Agency).
