Islamabad: For the first time in 16 years, a polio case has been reported in the federal capital.
A child in Union Council 4 of Islamabad has tested positive for the polio virus, marking the first case in the city after 16 years. This case is also the 17th polio case reported nationwide this year.
Ayesha Raza Farooq, the Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication, stated that it is unfortunate that another Pakistani child has been affected by polio.
She mentioned that the government has developed a comprehensive roadmap to halt the spread of polio.
A nationwide vaccination campaign is set to begin on September 9, targeting 115 districts with the goal of vaccinating 30 million children.
Coordinator of the National Emergency Operations Center, Anwar Haq, emphasized that efforts are being intensified to ensure every child receives the polio vaccine.
