Karachi: Heavy rains have caused widespread destruction in various cities and districts of Sindh, with Sukkur breaking a 77-year rainfall record. Over the past 24 hours, Sukkur received 263 mm of rain across four spells.
In the last 24 hours, Khairpur recorded 169 mm of rain, Larkana 123 mm, Moenjo Daro 119 mm, Rohri 119 mm, Jacobabad 99 mm, and Dadu 75 mm.
The heavy rains have significantly impacted the irrigation system, and in many areas, the drainage system has overflowed, causing extensive damage to crops such as rice, cotton, and dates.
The rains have also damaged the ancient ruins of Moenjo Daro, with the erosion of soil weakening walls and other structures.
In Larkana, in the densely populated Yar Muhammad Colony, a 7-year-old boy named Jawad tragically drowned in water that had accumulated in his home due to poor drainage, leading to devastation for his family.
In many low-lying areas, stagnant rainwater and sewage have forced residents to relocate, yet no relief camps have been set up by the authorities.
Heavy rains have created flood-like conditions in Mehrabpur. Sochi Colony, Pir Sher Shah Colony, Somrah Colony, and Madrassa Colony have been submerged, leaving residents confined to their homes, and the roads connecting to villages have been cut off due to the water.
